the best dressed at the SAG

January 27, 2008

The red carpet has returned! Thank god. It’s the only  reason why I watch these awards show since most of the nominees have already been predicted by members in Hollywood blah blah blah. But I was a little disappointed by the red carpet this year. Only a select few really had me going wow sadly. I expected more playful colors but the colors that I did see were not good. They were either too much or not enough. Let’s get the important part- the best dressed.

I knew that Marion Cotillard would leave me speechless and true to form, she did. She looked absolutely stunning, but too bad she didn’t win her award. I really felt that her work in  La Vie En Rose was the best this year, but oh well. Marion looked like an angel in her Nina Ricci dress. The corseted bust emphasized her teeny tiny waist and the flowing skirt made her look like she was floating over the red carpet. And the metallic gray worked beautifully with her complexion and soft makeup. After winning the Golden Globe but being without a red carpet, I had a hunch that she’d pull out all the stops for this red carpet and she didn’t let me down.

America Ferrera really knocked the ball out of the park tonight. She looked gorgeous. Her vintage hair and Monique Lhuillier lace dress blended beautifully with her dark olive skin. And the fit of that dress flaunted her sexy frame. I don’t think she has ever looked better.

Ellen Pompeo pleasantly surprised me in a Nina Ricci dress. Her hair wasn’t over the top, unlike other hair do’s that she has tried. And while the platinum dress might’ve been overkill, she did it right by not over-accessorizing. The cut of the dress across the bust fit her like a dream as well, giving her a little more va-va-voom.

Kate Beckinsale wore what I thought most actresses would try- pale yellow. Kate donned a Luisa Beccaria tiered ruffled dress with a gorgeous sparkling broach at the waist. Her makeup was dark and worked well with her dress, preventing her from looking too washed out which is always a possibility when wearing this color.

Marcia Cross wore this captivating turquoise Monique Lhuillier dress. I got to hand it to her, she knows what works well with her skin and body and chooses the best dress for her. The vibrant color against her pale skin matched with her flowing red hair and her toned down makeup allowed her dress to take the main stage. Can you believe that she had twins?! Insane. Great fit, great accessories, just stunning…

And that’s it. I had high hopes for Angelina Jolie but she wore this hideous brown overly-flowing gown that I think tried to hide her possibly pregnant belly. And why didn’t Bread shave?! Yuck. Debra Messing looked great but her hair was just impossible.
